What Does God Say About A Healthy Lifestyle? A Holy Approach To Weight Loss

As a Christian mom freelancer, you know that health is wealth. Without a proper healthy lifestyle, you can’t give your best in both personal and professional life. And with the new year, comes new resolutions for weight loss, exercise, and increased productivity. But have you ever thought about incorporating God’s ideas for health and wellness into your routine? Is it just about diet plans and fitness routines, or is there more to it? In this blog post, we will explore a more holistic approach to health based on what God says in His Word.

What does God say about a healthy lifestyle?

What Does God Say About The Importance of a Healthy Lifestyle?

We will start with the most obvious aspect of health – our physical bodies. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT version, it says, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”  This verse reminds us that our bodies are not our own but rather God’s, and we must take care of them. This means eating a balanced diet with healthy recipes, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly, and getting sufficient rest.

Nutrition Advice From The Bible

As work from home moms, we sit in front of a computer screen for long periods throughout the day and it can be extremely detrimental to your health. It leads to poor posture, back pain, obesity, and several other health issues. But what if you could get moving while working? That’s where the under desk treadmill or under desk foot pedal come in. They are perfect for mom entrepreneurs who want to sneak in some exercise during work hours with home workouts. You can also opt for roller blading, cycling, or comfortable running sneakers for a midday break run. And if you’re short on time, a jump rope can give you a quick but intense workout session.

What you put in your body is essential for your health and wellness. Incorporating a juicer or blender for smoothies can help you consume more fruits and vegetables in your diet and promote healthy eating. It’s an excellent way to get all the essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that your body needs. Also, try adding some super greens powder and collagen powder to your smoothies. They’ll help you improve digestion, boost immunity, and improve skin health.

Mental Health: A Spiritual Approach For A Healthy Lifestyle

Your emotional and mental health is just as important as your physical health. As a mom entrepreneur, you’re always juggling multiple tasks at the same time. It can be overwhelming and stressful, leading to anxiety and depression. Proverbs 17:22 NLT version says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” God has always planned for us to be joyful and abundant, as mentioned in John 10:10, not depressed, comparing ourselves to others, and not being happy. This means taking care of our mental health, seeking help if needed, getting enough sleep and taking time for self-care activities that bring us joy. Set aside some time in your daily routine for meditation using an app, prayer, or journaling. It can help you reduce stress levels, increase focus, and improve your overall well-being.

Does Your Spiritual and Relational Health Matter To God?

Your spiritual health is crucial to your overall well-being. In Matthew 4:4 NLT version, “But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” We need to nurture our spirits by spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, journaling and being part of a community of believers. This helps to keep us grounded, gives us hope, and helps us to trust in God’s plan even when things feel uncertain.

Your relationships with others can also impact your health. In Romans 12:10 NLT version, it says, “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” When we have healthy relationships with our spouses, children, friends, and colleagues, it can improve our emotional and even physical health. We need to take the time to build strong relationships and maintain them. In the upcoming year, one of my resolutions is to incorporate journaling in my spiritual walk with God. I’ve learned that the more inward and intimate I get with my Savior, the more trust and faith I have to get through the ups and downs of being a wife, mom and entrepreneur.

Your Healthy Lifestyle and Your Career

Lastly, we must consider our work health. As freelancers, we’ve started our businesses for more time and financial freedom without sacrificing raising our families, and too often we get caught up in the work and neglect other areas of our lives. It will happen. And when it does, this is your reminder to stop, re-prioritize, and refocus. Our work should never come at the expense of our mental health, marriage or our children. Ecclesiastes 9:10 NLT version says, “Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.” This means that we should give our best effort to our work, but not at the cost of our physical, emotional, spiritual, or relational health.

One way I have found is best to do this is by focusing solely on work when it’s time to work and focus solely on my family when it’s family time. I do this by setting boundaries, creating a work schedule and sticking to it, and reducing distractions. You can listen to calming Christian music or work meditations on Bluetooth earbuds that’ll keep you focused and energized so you can get more done in less time.

As a mom entrepreneur, your health and wellness should be the foundation for your success.  We have a responsibility to care for ourselves and the bodies that God has given us. His Word provides us with a holistic approach to health. Incorporating God’s principles for health and wellness can help you boost your productivity, reduce stress levels, increase focus, and improve your overall well-being. Let’s take time to care for ourselves in all these areas, so we can continue to serve Him, our families, and our businesses. Remember, it’s not just about living longer, but about living well.
