Mastering The #Mompreneur Mindset

The title of this post is a tad bit misleading. It should appropriately be named “how not to lose your s*** while trying to become a mompreneur”, but that title was a little too long. I am not a master mompreneur yet. I am speaking it into existence that I will be one of the top mompreneurs in my industry and I will be in a position to educate other moms how to get there, but until then I am learning how not to lose my mind while trying to juggle all the things, just like you are.

You see, I am a wife. I am a mom to a 13-month-old little girl. I am also 5 months pregnant. I run a successful online fitness coaching business and recently I ventured into the world of blogging and becoming a social media influencer. What is that you may ask? I’ll save that explanation for another blog post. It’s possibly the coolest career EVER! Oh, and I also teach ESL online with two international companies.

Soooo…I am busy. Like ridiculously busy.

But mama has big goals. I dream of the day I make my first million. The day where money or lack thereof no longer stresses me out. The day when I can take multiple exotic trips a year, booking tickets and hotel stays without “saving for it”, the money is just there. I dream of building my dream home and decorating it and furnishing it in a way that reflects my style, not mismatched with hand me down furniture. I dream of having a fully funded retirement fund. Of setting my parents up for retirement. I dream of complete peace of mind when it comes to my finances. And most importantly I dream of the day that my family sees and recognizes all that mommy has done for them and says “mommy I am proud of you.”

You see I am ambitious. Maybe overly ambitious. I have goals. Goals that use to scare the hell out of me, but now I see how attainable they actually are. So I work. I work hard. Every day until the burn out happens.

So with all of this constantly running through my mind, how in the world haven’t I lost my ish yet? Well, I had to learn and learn quickly 5 important things to remember as a businesswoman and as a mom.

Here are my top 5 tips for not losing it when you are a mompreneur:

  1. Stay grounded in your Faith: I am a Christian. I believe in God and Jesus, so for me staying grounded in my faith means taking time to read my bible, devotional, and/or listen to sermons online. I take time to rest and reconnect daily with God, allowing him to give me peace so He can use me to do the work he set for me to do.

  1. Get your health in check. Being a mompreneur is as mentally taxing as it is physically. Adopt a fitness and wellness routine that is done every day. Before you check emails, get on conference calls or start writing your next chapter in your book, drink water, exercise, and eat well. Get your blood pumping and flowing to your creative muscle…your brain and fuel your body with fuel! Every successful entrepreneur swears by having a daily workout routine. I love doing my workouts at home in my virtual gym using my Beachbody On Demand membership. I also drink a daily nutrient dense supplement shake that is the equivalent of six salads yet tastes like a Wendy’s frosty.

  1. Understand it’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon: anything in life worth having will take time. We have all heard this before but do you actually believe it. It took me a while to really believe this one. After I didn’t make my first million and pay off all my debt in 2 years I soon learned that just like my fitness journey good things take time. Once I really believed that my business successes will take time, I became less stressed, anxious and overwhelmed by it and started to love it more. There will always be work to be done, but you cannot perform at your best if you are burnt out. Take time to rest and recharge.

  1. You are only good as the company you keep. This one is huge. They say you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. In a nutshell, if you want to be successful, hang out and learn from other successful people. If you want to be a successful blogger, hang out and learn from other successful bloggers. If you want to learn how to run a business, join female business networking groups or mom business groups or faith-based female business groups such as She Works His Way .

  1. Create a Mission Worth Spending Your Life On. This is DEEP but so vital to staying motivated in the pursuit of your passion. See the word I said there: passion. In our society, everyone is trying to make money fast. There are many mamas who sign up for online businesses that aren’t passionate because they may be desperate to provide for their family. Now there is nothing wrong with using the need to provide as fuel to become successful, but it may not last long. If you are passionate about knitting, start a business on teaching people how to knit. If you are passionate about makeup, create an online course on make-up application. The point is, turn your passion into a paycheck. Do not just chase money. You will end up burning out and miserable. Trust that God has put you on the right path, He has given you talents and gifts and capabilities to use your passion to achieve your goals and become successful. If you do not have the belief in yourself and pursue your business with passion then do not pursue it at all. It’s all or nothing baby.

Mama, you are a #mompreneur. Your job never stops. You sleep and dream the hustle. But you aren’t superhuman. You are still a mom. A mom who sacrifices to see her dream and vision become a reality for her family. You should be proud of your hustle. You know it’s not a balancing act, but instead a juggling act, and soon you will be a master juggler. Mama, I am rooting for you. I want to see you and more moms home with their families being the BREADWINNERS. Yes, I said breadwinners while baking cooking for the school bake sale. You can do it!
