When was the last time you tried something new?

…and that is exactly what I plan to do for the rest of the year. Don’t you just love the Fall and the holiday season? All the snacks, candy, and holiday parties? Fun right! Yes, but not fun for your waistline. I refuse to let my weight increase during this time of year. Not gonna happen! 

So, last week I attended my first Stroller Strides workout with Fit4mom and that morning I woke up motivated, determined, and ready to slay! I haven’t taken a group workout class in years, so I was a little nervous but excited because my competitive nature comes out in group settings. I have a love-hate relationship with fitness. I am not in love with it, but I have fully accepted it is necessary to live a full happy life. I was pumped. 



I had a delicious but small breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs and ½  a banana. I chugged my plant-based pre-workout so I could push my body to the max. I pulled up to the mall and walk towards the JCPenny’s, where I spotted a group of mamas with strollers, stretching and introducing themselves. Instantly, I noticed that I was the only mom of color there. I often call myself a black unicorn, since this happens to me often in extracurricular activities, but nonetheless, I felt very welcomed from the minute I joined them. 


After the warm-up, we did several rounds of cardio, including jog/sprints, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, and high knee skips. We did bodyweight moves such as jump squats and planks and even incorporated resistance band moves. The cutest part was when we sang nursery rhymes for our babies while using our resistance bands to do moves with cute names like “the monkey” and your traditional chest press, shoulder press, and bicep curls using the bands. 

I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I am glad I went. I was dripping sweat after the hour and I could feel that I will be sore tomorrow. I am a huge advocate for at home workout programs. I’ve successfully lost 35 lbs and have maintained my weight and health by just working out 30 minutes a day for years. But postpartum weight loss is a different beast. My postpartum snapback isn’t happening as quickly as I predicted, which did bother me for a while, but I have come to accept that I am healthy and that is all that matters. And although I love my at home workouts, being a stay at home/work from home mom, it’s important to get out the house and do fun things for myself other than baby and me class. It is also crucial to your mental stability to have interactions with other adults and talk about other things that do not have to do with our babies. Can I get an Amen? 


Fit4Mom believes in strength in motherhood and offers different workouts that include your baby or not, playdates, moms night out, and fitness for all stages of motherhood including prenatal fitness. I love their mission in helping moms find their strength and happiness through fitness. Their mission aligns with my personal mission and I could totally see myself joining the Fit4Mom family some day. In just one class, I could sense a mommyhood bond between the mamas. I am glad that I chose to do something new! I’ve already signed up to take another class with Stroller Strides!
